True story: I sent Cap City beatmaker Trompie aka Bleksperm these questions to answer and got them back the next day. Now if you haven’t picked up anything unusual about that previous sentence (no, it’s not grammatical), it’s the fact that in between his crazy schedule producing, recording and mixing for the likes of Flex Boogie, Boy Wonder, N’Veigh, and myself, he still managed to send them back to me in 24 hours. Now there I was caught off-guard, coz I was only expecting to put up the interview at least a week later, going through his answers editing the text when it hit me; Eff it I’m going to put up everything as he sent it back to me verbatim; Raw and unedited. Although Questlove is better known as a drummer for the Philadelphia based Hip-Hop band The Roots, Ahmir Khalib Thompson is also a producer, music journalist and as the crowd at Carfax on December 12th found out, a killer DJ.
During his solo tour to South Africa, Questlove like most international artists expressed his excitement in finally reaching the “motherland” and assured the crowd he would soon return with the Roots crew.
