“We on a world tour/ with Muhammad my man”

No shots but dear Arts Alive WTF? Totally agree with some of the comments on this AG thread, cant we get a no-name A-Grade artist at least?
Flex Boogie in the capital and Knaan in Jozi. Too bad if you reside outside the Golden Province.

Gangsta! Gangsta!
I’m typing this sitting at the Red Bull Music Studios in Cape Town, the venue for A Third World Perspective which serves as a taster for things to come at the Red Bull Music Academy next year in London. Go to their website here for more information. All I can say is it’s been a crazy week for me just incredible being in the presence of such musical giants as Russ “The Dragon” (sound engineer for D’Angelo, The Roots, Common, Erykah Badu and the list is endless), Theo Crous (Springbok Nude Girls lead guitarist), Trevor Jackson (superstar UK DJ and producer), my mellow my man afro house superhero Black Coffee and of coz SA living legend Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse. That man is an ocean of knowledge, gave me a totally new perspective on my music both artistically and as a business.
ETC Crew: “For ETC Crew’s second music video, Martin Mezzabotta took the lyrics of “To the Black Man” and tried to summarise the patronising trends of post-Apartheid movies in 2 minutes and 45 seconds. The video tells the story of a white man finding his redemption by adopting the son of the black man he had earlier electrocuted in a wet-bag.”
This was a good initiative for lack of a better word put together by some peeps in downtown Jozi marching from Ritual store to the Drill Hall in Johannesburg to commemorate the June 16 Soweto student uprising. Props to my man Flow for the dope photography.
Dem Roach Boys is back at it again.

Ewok Interview about Life Check from Rory Jacobs on Vimeo.
Life Check being the monthly sessions held in Durban at the BAT Centre by Ewok and co. Next show: 06/06. Checkem out.
Spotted at NahRight. Still have no regrets for missing it though. Don’t know why but I suspect I’m starting to boycott these overseas acts until we get our own house in order. That goes for radio coverage and live shows.
A little description of what’s in the video clip after the jump.
Dates and supporting artists line-up for Durban and Joburg shows on the backside of the fliers after the jump.
Spotted this at Proverb’s den earlier. He’s also got some photos from his birthday party perfomance there check’em out.
R150 at Computicket. R175 at the door. At least they’re not pulling that R300-a-pop shit on us like the Mos Def and SV shows. Charge the same crowd R30 for a show with not only one but two or three good local acts on the bill and mofos squeal. You all are hypocrites, SA heads, shame on you. I ain’t even mad, I gave up a while ago. Just saying!
Taken at AG.
Tickets available now @ Computicket.
Wow would you look at that, with no comments from this blogger.

It’s about that time of the year again. Also worth noting, Raiko and I are putting together a mixtape for Freedom Day so look out for that. I will confirm the line up for the fest soon with yall. Oh and please note there’s a little entrance fee of R30 this year. Yes, only.
It’s official. You know what, this April has got to be one of the dopest months in this country for a lot of folk I’ve spoken to in a long time for too many reasons to mention especially if you’re either one of these three things or all: a hip hop head, an ANC member and/or regular nine to fiver.
I was gonna boycott this show on SS for some reasons known or unknown to you all but you know what it is what it is- ain’t no biz like showbiz. That said, some of these young, upcoming companies need to stop with the swagger-jacking already.
UPDATE: Venues confirmed: JHB - The Bassline and CPT The Assembly.
Yep. Indefinitely until further notice due to some family shit. Sorry again but that’s all I can reveal at this stage.
Here’s another show you might not wanna miss should you find yourself fortunate enough to be in Cap City on the weekend of Hakeem’s PNS album launch. Also maybe worth noting is I’m suppose to be making a comeback of sorts performing live as one of the opening acts for Ras but you wouldnt know looking at the flyer ^ above, would you? I’m such an antihero I know.
Politics. As usual.
You know the drill, all details updated on the flyer ^.
All details on the flyer ^. We on our gotta stop playing with these kids like Michael state of mind right now baby.
This was to celebrate legendary hip hop and R&B label Def Jam’s 25th anniversary. Look out for highlights on Mtv Base. Co hosted by Hakeem and Mtv Base’s fly gurl, Fix featuring Fifi, Osmic and Quaz and DJ Kenzhero on the decks.
Have some video footage too but it’s lousy. The camera quality that is.
Hit the jump for more pics and the flyer for DJ Lemonka’s Presents Motswako Tape release party @ Roka tomorrow with Hakeem, Prof, Tuks, Notshi, Mathematics and others.
At the 2009 Cape Town International Jazz Festival (alongside an army of other good acts from different genres which you might or might not care about) that takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on 03-04 April.
Edit: Dear Dante, I quite like your singing but all I know is you best not come out here with a full-on pretty flaco choir boy singing set. Unless it’s ‘Ummi Says’. Besides that’s what they have the other acts for. Other than that, you best come out here swinging and ready to rap your ass off like it’s lyricist lounge all over again. And a guest appearance from Talib Kweli to do some Blackstar cuts wouldn’t hurt either.
Recessionproof price. Dope line-up. What more do yall want?
For archive purposes.
Week 12 + 13. And thats it, boys and girls- it’s over- thank you.
Now check out details on the flyer above for the launch where Hakeem will be performing all 13 tracks live @ House 22, Sunnyside, Pretoria on the 21st Feb. Pens & Swords coming soon, b!%#$.
Edit: Show moved up to the 18th Feb.
Hit the jump for download links to previous songs.
Alongside Strick of EMC and DJ Flo Fader. One word: Ayeye!
Go over to Trompie’s blog for streaming of some joints from Ben Sharpa’s and Rattex’s ‘B. Sharpa’ and ‘Bread and Butter’ albums respectively. You won’t regret it. Oh and make a note on your Crackberry if you’re in the Jozi: joint album launch on the 29th October (event flyer above).
This past Sunday, 28th. New kid on the Cap City block, POET, was there too and so was Ras. If nothing else, Hakeem’s perfomance proved that he might just be a motswako rapper after all contrary to all this. HHH Music was not available for comment at the time of going to press. Uh oh, and of course we where there too- it’s not called Street Sheet for nothing, now is it?
Over here. Nah, it ain’t even what you think. The O comes in peace really doing what he always does best- building the culture. Yea, we know sometimes you all wished he didn’t. But if you’re looking for ‘that’ kind of stuff, you’re free to go here too. Just don’t tell anyone we chickened out of publishing that. It’s called principles.
Yea, we know some of y’all think this stuff shouldn’t even be on SS but it’s the streets that dictate what we put up here and right now this crumping thing is popping off crazy from J-Section to the D. How could we resist when we live on these same streets?
Details after the jump…
Another DJ Kenzhero presents… you already know… this time bringing you all you fav femcees under one roof. Happy Women’s Day from the SS team in case we don’t get a chance to say it tomorrow.
This should be pretty dope. We’ve been checking for this girl since she last ripped a 16 at Bahamadia’s Party People show earlier this year in Jozi. See you there. Details on the poster above or go here.

You know the deal. See you all there.
Peep your boy J Live - djing and mcing at the same time - at the JHB installment of Party People and like the post below, well, we’ve been meaning to post these for a while now. That also goes for the Driemanskap video performing live at DJ Beatoven’s launch party at the State Theatre which took place on the same night in PTA. Enjoy.
Been meaning to post these for a while- videos of Wordsworth live at Party People in JHB a few weeks ago. The highlight is when the sound system at the club pauses and well, i guess you’re gonna have to watch to find out what he says after.
Them Tiltt boys are hosting a launch party for their recently opened sneaker store in Braamfontein this Sunday, 27th April, check out the flier for more details.
Party People is at it again, this time bringing you J-Live live on stage in Jozi at Roka on the 26th April and in Cape Town at Zula Bar on the 25th. See you there.
It’s confirmed DJ Beatoven is launching his 4th edition of “Straight out the oven” mixtapes in Pretoria at the world famous SA State Theatre next Saturday, that’s 26 April. Cover charge is R50 so don’t be coming up in there trying to pound the bouncer like you buddy-buddies. Yo, Buff where my VIP tickets at?
50’s coming to SA (again) - yippie - well not really, look I’m just mentioning this for archive purposes. The good folks at Rage are giving out some tickets here though. Go ahead I know you wanna click on the link, I’m waiting for Chris Rock to touchdown in June, gangster.
